So I tried the pipe cleaner spiral set again. This time I took more time rolling my hair. I only put 3-6 locks on each roller. I left the pipe cleaners in for about 17 hours.
When I took them out I left the spirals intact for another day.
This morning I separated the spirals. Here are the results. Enjoy! (Please leave comments)
This blog will chronicle my natural hair and loc journey. I’ve been natural since 2001. I began my first loc journey in 2002 with traditional locs. I have made the decision to transition to SisterLocks™ this year. You are welcomed to watch my journey. Peace and Blessings! http://twitter.com/theivyleague

Sisterlocks and Pipe Cleaners
So I’ve seen a few youtube videos about rolling sisterlocks on pipe cleaners and I was intrigued. So I went out and bought some. I found a pack of 25 at Michael’s for 99¢, so I bought 3 packs. I heard that I might have been able to get them cheaper at Wal-Mart, but I haven’t verified that information yet. I prepared 2 packs (50) of the pipe cleaners before washing my hair. I folded the pipe cleaner in half and formed a loop around my index finger. I then wrapped the two ends around one another until I reached the end. The loop makes the roller easy to hold and roll.
After banding and washing my hair, I began to take small sections of SLs and wrap them around the pipe cleaner (now turned roller). I started at the loop of the roller from the end of my hair. I rolled it in a spiral formation, because I was striving for a spiral type curl. I folded the end of the pipe cleaner over to secure it in place. It took a little more than an hour to roll my entire head. I did not sit under the dryer because I did my hair early enough in the day to let it air dry and I kept them in over night. Here are pictures of how my hair looked in the pipe cleaners. I ended up using 55 rollers.
FYI…I chose blue pipe cleaners because: 1. Blue is my favorite color :-) and 2. Whenever I use black rollers, bands, or any hair tool, they easily get lost in my jet-black hair.
The next morning when I was ready to get out and about I removed the cleaners. I did not just pull them out, I unwrapped each roller in a circular motion in an effort to preserve the spiral.
Here is what my hair looked like when I took the pipe cleaners out.
I separated each SL for a fuller effect. Unfortunately I had 2 casualties. I have only experienced lock loss in the front temple area. It was the same with my traditional locks. Not sure if there's anything to be done about that. :-(

- The curls are really tight now, but I still like to outcome and I know it will look better as the days go by. I put a headband on for a different look.
I think I found my new thing…..pipe cleaners!
Notes for the future: - Colored pipe cleaners may not be a good idea. I am picking some blue fuzz out of my hair.
- As my hair grows I may need to use more so I need to purchase more pipe cleaners.
- When I make more, I will not fold them in half. At my current length, I still needed more room at the end of the pipe cleaner.
- I may consider twisting 2 pipe cleaners together for a little thicker roller.
PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS! THANKS FOR CHECKING ME OUT!
I will try to remember to take pictures as my hair gets older. I hear this style could last 3 weeks. We will see.

Happy Birthday Sisterlocks!!!!!
I can’t believe it’s already been a year that I’ve had my SLs installed! I have loved every moment of this journey thus far. What’s next?? 1. Anticipating the news that I no longer need to band before washing. 2. Making plans to take the retightening class so that I can maintain my own hair. Let’s go SLs….I’m ready for the next leg of this journey!

Braid Out
So last night I felt like playing with my hair so I spritzed it with water and braided it up. I left the braids in until mid-day the next day. The pictures below are the result of the braid out.
My sister wanted to play in my hair too so she pinned it up. The other 2 pics are the result of my sister’s style.
I guess I will be doing braid outs more often. I wasn’t sure if it was worth it because my hair has a natural curl and I thought one wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between my natural curl pattern and the braid out. Comments are always welcomed.

Where Did the Time Go?
Sorry it has taken me so long to post updates. It has been a very busy 5 months. Well here are pictures of my hair 1 day after my 11 month retightening. I really can tell the difference as I look at previous postings. My hair is longer and fuller. I love it more and more every month! Okay here are the updates. Please leave comments.
@ 11 months I am:
Still loving my hair!
Still having to band my hair to wash….(when will that end?)
Sleeping on a satin pillow case instead of a satin cap.
Getting retightenings every 4-5 weeks.
Wearing my hair free style (even though I have lock loops and other rollers). I like my curl pattern because I don’t have to roll my hair if I don’t want to.
Still experiencing some slippage on the ends of my locs. My consultant has been retightening my ends during each session. :-(

6 Month Revelations
Here are pictures of what my hair looks like at the 6 month mark. I am still absolutely in love with my sisterlocks. At 6 months I notice:
That I still can’t keep my hands out of my hair.
That the closer I get to my next retightening, the more I like the way my hair acts, then the cycle continues.
Pictures don’t do my hair justice…it’s so black and curly that it just looks like an afro or jehri curl on pictures.
I don’t need to roll my hair, the natural curl pattern is good enough. I am very low maintenance.
My ends are still slipping even with banding and turning my ends under. I have decided to try and only wash my hair once between my every 4 week retightening appointments. We will see how that goes.
The journey continues……..
Peace and Blessings!

5 Months
Peace and blessings ladies! I apologize for not blogging more, but it’s hard for me to see much change in my hair. Here are some pictures I took today. My SLs are 5 months old. The only changes that I can note are:
1. I notice that my hair really shrinks after I wash it. I washed my hair last night and this is morning I had a time trying to get the girls to relax.
2. I don’t use the lock loops, rollers, or rods anymore. It took some other people to notice that they couldn’t tell the difference since my hair has a very unique curl pattern. These pictures and the last ones posted are the results of only banded washing. No rollers necessary for now I guess.
I will update again next month. I’m still very much in love with my SLs. People are always so surprised that I cut my long traditional locs, but I have NO REGRETS! Until next time…….

90 Day Probation
Happy New Year!!! I haven’t posted since last year….LOL. Well I’ve made it to the 3 month mark and I thought I would post a picture comparing then to now. My hair definitely has more volume than it did when I started out. I don’t have too many changes to report. I can fill minimal thickening in a few of the locks. It doesn’t seem longer on the pictures but I know my hair is growing because my consultant has been able to do a full rotation on my last two retightenings. My hair is very springy so that explains the illusion of no growth. Overall, I am 100% pleased with my progress thus far. Sisterlocks, your probationary period is over and I have decided to keep you on because I see that you will be an asset to the organization. Press on ladies!!!!
